"Travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer"

I don't know who said this but they sure were speaking nothing but the truth! I always feel better equipped and more knowledgeable after exploring foreign lands. I especially love it when we can go "off the beaten path".

Of course, everyone knows and visits Rio de Janeiro regularly but what about Bahia? Who knows to take that ass to visit Bahia?! Not nobody. Why would you know if no one ever told you to go.

Well, I'm telling you to go and go now! Seriously, Rio was cool and we re-visted and re-enacted the scenes from the Pharrell and Snoop "Beautiful" video while Milly Rocking all over the country (wait for it, there's video). I feel like I need to revisit Rio just to make sure I had a thorough enough visit but Bahia felt amazing upon arrival. Seriously, spend like two days in Rio and the remaining five, ten, or fifteen days in Bahia. Thank me later.

We were standing on historic ground in Pelourinho, a neighborhood in western Salvador, Bahia. It was the first slave port in the Americas and became the home to 4 million African slaves, 10 times as many sent to North America. It was the city's center during the Portuguese colonial period and was named for the whipping post in its central plaza where African slaves received public punishment.

We were are a blessed generation and we dare not take these experiences for granted. The freedom and privileges that we enjoy now didn't belong to those that came before us.

Just in case you were wondering, they did not come to play with you people!

I think Porta da Barra stands for the place of the popping beach.  Seriously, every person in Bahia was on this beach!

My favorite parts of going to a new country is interacting with it's people. These children couldn't speak English and we couldn't speak Portuguese but they knew to ham it up for the camera. They saw that camera and they performed, hunty! We paid them in ice cream.

I swear I love a good candid moment.

"All I need in this life of sin..." Look at us looking like the Bonnie and Clyde of Bahia!
Chidi found the leather briefcase in this photo at one of the nearby shops for around $60 USD. Real live genuine leather. Of course, we all followed suit and purchased leather items to take home as souvenirs.

I will have this on my wall even though I'm not even remotely in the picture. It's an instant classic!
