Memo 070: Get Your Independence!

To: All
From: Me
Date: July 4, 2013
Subject:  Happy Independence Day
_____________________________________________________________________________________

I can bet exactly 13 cents that you were expecting red, white and blue?

See that's the thing about expectations, they make an "expect" out of "a" and "tions". Wait...

So, what I'm saying is that we put a lot of expectations on each other. Parents to children, teachers to students, siblings to one another, spouses or partners to each other, and so on. At some point you have to live YOUR life according to YOU. I don't mean live a selfish life but live one that is uniquely yours.

Free yourself from the expectations that other people have put on your life. Cut yourself free of the mold. Make your own path. Take the road less traveled. Do something that is against the norm.

I did! I wore orange, black and white on Independence Day! (Gasp) What will the people think?! Throwing expectations to the wind...

Be free to be YOU!

Memo 069: Year Half Empty or Year Half Full

To: All
From: Me
Date: July 2, 2013
Subject:  Mid-Year Review
_____________________________________________________________________________________

By now, you've probably figured out that the warp speed at which my life is passing me by freaks me out a little. So, quite naturally for me, when July rolled up on a sista, I had a couple of choices to make. I could either beat myself up for not accomplishing all that I said that I would at the beginning of the year OR I could reflect on what has gone amazingly well and what I have worked hard to complete.

I'm going with the latter. It makes me feel better about my life and it gives me permission to eat cupcakes from time to time.

So, at this mid-point in the year, it's great time not only to evaluate what has gone well but also a good time restart or re-focus on some goals that have gotten left behind. Don't freak out. You can start from today!

Now that we've avoided a total melt down, let's take a look at the top looks for 2013, so far.

Memo 068: Overalls for Dinner

To: All
From: Me
Date: June 27, 2013
Subject:  Overall, the overalls are back in...
_____________________________________________________________________________________

Yes, I got sucked into this overall trend. One day within 24 hours, I had no less than 43 people (ok, it was only like three people) ask me where to get a cute pair of overalls. Overalls? Really?! My mind immediately transported me back into the 90s. At some point during the 90s, I was ten and owned a pair of overalls.

Listen, I am not trying to look ten! So, I bought these overall shorts with the intent of still looking like a grown up. I think I achieved it.

I present overalls that you could rock to dinner!
