Memo 180: The Braai-ght Side of Things

To: All
From: Me
Date: April 17, 2015
Subject: Chaf Pozi and N'em
__________________________________________________________________________________

No visit to Johannesburg is done right without a proper Braai. We stopped over at Chaf Pozi (on a slow day) in Soweto and got our entire life. Lucky for us, this didn't take hours upon hours. See, you first have to choose your meat (kind of like at a butcher shop) and then they put it on the braai (better known as the barbecue). If it's busy this can take up to 6 hours to get your food. Six. It's worth it though. You just have to plan accordingly.

What's a Braai without the perfect summertime relaxed and casual look. We were doing a lot of touristy things and I wanted to make sure that I was comfortable for the occasion. I lasted the entire day in these Jeffrey Campbell Gladiators (my designated shoes for the week), H&M Seersucker Shorts and Tory Burch Tunic.

And of course the Bo Derek inspired cornrows were the perfect icing to this look. I forgot how low maintenance braids can be. Who doesn't appreciate a get up and go hairstyle. Just pray for my edges. Amen.

The South Africa Travel Clique in front of the Orland Towers. They were used to supply power to the surrounding suburbs and caused a great deal of pollution in Soweto who was not able to actually benefit from the power supplied by the towers. Now the towers are used as a landmark and for bungee jumping.

Memo 176: Sweating the Denim Trend

To: All
From: Me
Date: March 3, 2015
Subject: Denim + Sweats

Guess who's loving the denim trend this season? Me!

Let me explain. Denim can look good whether your pieces are from H&M or Gucci especially with the help of a good tailor. It's pretty amazing on tons of different body types and there are so many ways to incorporate the trend with all of the denim pieces that are available.

I paired my denim pieces with a pair of H&M sweatpants and neutral accessories. I initially wanted to go for a completely all denim look but the color of my denim pieces neither complimented nor coordinated with each other. They just didn't get along!

Trend Tip: Pay attention to your denim colors when opting for an all denim look.

Memo 096: I'm ONE!!!

Subject: HUHC Outfit Recap: Sunday Brunch/Day Party

Happy One Year Blogaversary to me!!

I'm super excited to be here and I'm so glad that you've been along for the ride. I can't wait to see what the next year has in store for this blog. As a way to show my appreciation, I'm giving one of you lucky readers a gift! Click "More Werk" for the details.

On to the outfit...

This is my Howard University Homecoming look from the Sunday Brunch/Day Party. Yes, you read that right. There was a brunch immediately followed by a day party. I'm not sure to this day who played in the football game or who won but I did know the time and location of every party going on this past weekend! I felt that this look fit both of the occasions. It was girly enough for a Sunday brunch and jazzy enough for the day party!
