Memo 204: Picked from the Deck and Drew a Blank

To: All
From: Me
Date: October 21, 2015
Subject: Nothing to Wear, No Problem
__________________________________________________________________________________

Sometimes, I draw an utter, complete  and absolute clothing blank. Like, I'm looking into a sea of clothing but nothing. I hate saying I have nothing to wear because there are three closets full of things that would say otherwise but sometimes, literally, nothing. Not one thing.

Instead of just sitting on the floor in the middle of a tantrum wasting precious pre-event preparation time, I either resort to something that I've already worn or I go for a monochromatic look. On this day, I settled for the latter. Can we say black like I never left?

Phew, that was a close call. I almost didn't go...

Memo 193: To Keep Them or Not to Keep Them

To: All
From: Me
Date: August 11, 2015
Subject: That is the Question
__________________________________________________________________________________

Going to a day party or out for a little happy hour? I have the perfect outfit for you! Of course, the look is featuring my go to peplum shorts for the season! A couple of months ago, I had to make a really tough decision between the Cameo Collective 'It's Time' Peplum Shorts featured in this look and the Mink Pink 'Summer Time' Shadows Shorts that are linked in the "Get the Look" section.

I literally had them both side-by-side and tried to rationalize keeping both of them. They're so similar but they're not. I finally just closed my eyes, spun around the room, landed on the Cameo Collective pair and bid the Mink Pink pair adieu.

I'm pretty sure that I still need them. Things people with a shopping addiction say.

I know, I know! It's been a minute, right? Don't hate me, k? Sometimes life shows up.

So, about these stripes. Yup, loving them. When I spotted this massive pinstripe scarf over at ASOS, I knew I had the perfect outfit to bring it to life. I mean the scarf giveth life on its own but I sent it into stripe overload and it's one for the books!

The look is super stylish and works for most occasions especially stopping for ice cream!

Little known fact about me: I was in the restaurant service industry for roughly three years while I was in college and a year after I graduated. So, I have a great appreciation for the dining experience and amazing service. I was pretty good if I may toot my own horn. Toot Toot!

This look is a nod to my serving days.

Memo 152: An Oxford Kind of Day

To: All
From: Me
Date: September 25, 2014
Subject: NYFW Look 3
_____________________________________________________________________________________

Flat shoes are a must during anybody's fashion week. I was over heels by day two of NYFW. These Pour La Victoire Oxford were a very stylish and comfortable option.

These little Madewell black lace shorts paired with this J.Crew bib shirt and Zara leather sleeved blazer felt a little, dare I say, naughty. The lace peeking through at the bottom of the shirt are a nice unexpected surprise.

Whenever lingerie inspired pieces are worn in public, there's always an air of sexy and I like it!

If you catch me out on the "weekend", I'm usually wearing some variation of this look. Don't judge me but this look is super comfortable. It's especially perfect for traveling and shopping. Easy in and easy out! Seriously, TSA has nothing on me when I'm wearing this.

I, also, have this dress in black and I feel like I should have gotten about five more! It's the perfect length hitting right below the knee and did I mention that it was comfortable? Yeah, I'm in love.

Memo 120: Houndstooth Fairy

To: All

Subject: Black and White Excellence
_____________________________________________________________________________________

Hello.

Welcome to March 2014.

Is your time flying by just as fast as mine? I was literally just kidnapped by New York for an additional four days after fashion week (due to the snow of course) and now it's March. What the what?

Moving on, this is one of the many looks that I wore during NYFW. This time, I switched out my black coat for this oldie but goodie houndstooth number. This was my go to coat a couple of years ago and it's looking to make a comeback.

Coat: Zara, Top: See by Chloe, Skirt: D&G

Memo 118: Feeling a Little Grey

To: All
From: Me
Date: February 12, 2014
Subject: Lincoln Center Activities
_____________________________________________________________________________________

The day that I wore this outfit will always be remembered as the day that I met THEE June Ambrose. It was definitely a moment for me.

So, if you didn't know, I want to let you know that it's cold in New York; like, disrespectfully cold. You can look out the window and see the sun but that's really just a mirage. The sun is doing NOTHING for these sub-polar, frigid, ice cold temperatures.

For this look, I chose to stick to a grey color palette. I went from the lightest of light greys picked up in the faux fur vest to the darkest of dark greys in the over-the-knee boots.

I was warm. I was grey. And I was happy.

Memo 117: New York State of Mind

To: All

Subject: Times Squared
_____________________________________________________________________________________

So, if you're following me on Instagram, you already know that I'm in New York for Fashion Week. And let me tell you, this week so far has been an experience. I can't even keep up with myself! I need to put myself in the corner and go reflect on everything that is going on. You guys know I stay putting myself in the corner!

So, I definitely had to play tourist in between the shows. I went to Times Square to be amazed by the flashing lights! On this day, I doubled up my coats, focused on structural black and white and added a pop of color.

To: All

Subject: I Scream, You Scream

Who doesn't like a little ice cream on their sweater?

I love when clothing can provoke emotions from people. Seriously, everyone was talking to me this day. They knew I had to be a fun having, life loving, ice cream eating type of girl if I was wearing this outfit.

You're guaranteed to have a good day walking around with an ice cream sweater. I've seen a smiley face t-shirt. I need that one, too.

Who couldn't use some guaranteed good days?

Memo 109: Why Don't You...

To: All
From: Me
Date: December 25, 2013
Subject: Lady in Red
_____________________________________________________________________________________

Give love on Christmas day?

Sure will! Sending a huge virtual hug to all of you on this Christmas day. I hope that you're spending good quality time with loved ones and eating yourself into the ultimate food coma. Have a second (or third) plate on me and we'll work it off tomorrow, okay? Cool.

It only felt right to bless the day with a little red. And by little, I mean a lot. I love the ease and flow of this dress. It almost looks like I was invited to a Christmas togo party. Hmmmm, someone definitely needs to try this next year and let me know how it turns out.

I finished off the look with some unexpected outwear (trench cape and feathers!) and a gold belt. I'm pretty sure I'm loving the cape on cape or collar on cape action. Spicy!

Merry Christmas to you all! Muah!

Memo 103: Let Me Take You to School

To: All
From: Me
Date: December 9, 2013
Subject: Statement Coat: Look 1
_____________________________________________________________________________________

Let's talk about statement coats. As the temperature turns down (the opposite of turn up), the outer layer becomes increasingly important. I like to make a statement as each layer is removed but I have to start from the one that you'll likely see in these upcoming winter months. Let your coat do all of the talking!

And please, a moment of silence for the scarf.

*silence*

Amen.

Memo 081: A Lil' Matchy Matchy

To: All
From: Me
Date: August 30, 2013
Subject: Orange + Fuchsia
_____________________________________________________________________________________

I don't know if I've mentioned this before but I'm originally from Michigan.

There was a little company called Guess Jeans that was pretty popular when I was growing up. I worked for Guess during high school and on breaks while I was home from college.

It was a requirement that your Guess outfits had to coordinate! In the late 90s, Guess made jeans to span the rainbow. We were walking around looking exactly like a bag of skittles!

I guess you can take the girl out of Detroit but you can't take the Detroit out of the girl.

Match on, playa...

Memo 075: Shopping My Closet

To: All
From: Me
Date: July 30, 2013
Subject: Fashion Rule! of the Moment
_____________________________________________________________________________________

Aren't you proud of me?

Just nod your head "yes".

I've been following this Fashion Rule! to a tee!:
DO shop your closet. Sometimes, all you need to add is a new piece here and there to create a completely new look with some pieces that are already in your very own personal boutique.

I've had this Zimmermann (I know...) Jumpsuit, the ASOS Clutch and the Report Signature Sandals for a couple of years. The MCB Shop turban and ASOS Regal Dog Necklace are newer pieces that have given this jumpsuit a different look.

What's your favorite Fashion Rule? Have you discovered any new rules?

Feel free to share!
