Memo 140: Taking a Walk Around the Parker Blazer

To: All
From: Me
Date: June 27, 2014
Subject: Featuring Pour La Victoire Jemmy Oxfords

I clearly love this Parker blazer and black and white shoes. I love this Parker blazer WITH black and white shoes. I love shoes. I love blazers. I love love.

Wait…

This time, I paired the blazer with an easy breezy seersucker Mossimo romper (yes, from Target) along with these Pour La Victoire Jemmy oxfords. They give me life, do you understand? Life. Like, I whisper sweet nothings to their soles and dream about the next time that we will be together.

I wish I could give you this feeling...

Memo 139: Day And Night

To: All
From: Me
Date: June 25, 2014
Subject: Business During the Day, Party at Night
_____________________________________________________________________________________

Have you ever experienced that day that won't stop? After work, there's happy hour with co-workers, of course, dinner with friends and you just have to "stop by" your favorite bar/lounge. I know if I go home, that's pretty much a wrap on the rest of the day! You now know it and my friends know it, too!

That's why this look was pretty spot on for the day that won't quit. Add the H&M blazer for business during the day, take it off for a little party at night.

P.S. Don't forget to vote in the Vanity Fair Users' Choice Challenge here.

Subject: Video Shoot Flow
_____________________________________________________________________________________

Welp, I just popped my music video style consultant cherry! I had the pleasure of working with the super talented, single named (think Beyonce, Cher, Rihanna, and the list goes on), soul singer/songwriter Collette, on the shoot for her latest single "Never Told You" from her Juneteenth Revolution album. The video releases today. Like, right now!

I worked with Collette to come up with several looks to bring the vision of this single to life. Here are a couple of stills from the video shoot.

And just for good measure, before you get into this post, just give me three clicks worth of time at the Vanity Fair User's choice challenge here. Remember, there are TWO looks from The Werk! Place ("Mixed Up" and "Goal Digger") in the challenge. Thanks in advance for your support!

Memo 136: A Seersucker for Fast Fashion

To: All
From: Me
Date: June 4, 2014
Subject: Five Things to Remember When Shopping Fast Fashion
__________________________________________________________________________________

Deep in my spirit, I aim to shop at other retailers. I really do. But the way that my bank accounts are set up. See, I have this checking and this savings account…

H&M (Zara and Topshop) just gets me and has respect for my wallet!

To be honest, I don't love everything in H&M BUT I have never once walked out empty handed. Never not once!

When shopping at fast fashion retailers, I like to keep a few things in mind:
  1. Buy items made from natural fibers (i.e. Cotton, Silk, and Wool). Synthetic materials from lower end retailers tend to look really inexpensive (read: cheap). Just because it is inexpensive doesn't mean that it should look inexpensive!
  2. Try on more than one size or a couple pieces of the same size. Don't pay attention to the number; just make sure that it fits! Also, if your size is sold out, grab the next size or two up and take it to your favorite tailor.
  3. Inspect before you buy! I've seen holes, missing sequins and buttons, make-up stains, and more from the clothing hanging on the racks. Often times, you can negotiate a little discount based on the severity of the damage.
  4. Go to the store either early in the morning, say like when they first open, or on a quiet Monday or Tuesday. You want to be able to take your time and see every piece in it's fully stocked and in place glory!
  5. Lastly, Go often! The great pieces are the first to go, online and in the stores. So, if you can swing it, visit once a week or at least once a month so that you don't miss any awesome buys. After all, that's what it's all about.
Before you go, two looks from The Werk! Place have been nominated for June 2014 Users' Choice Award in the Vanity Fair International Best Dressed Challenge. Please, vote for the looks here by clicking the hearts in the corner of the photos and spread the word!
